Queanbeyan-Palerang Community Voice

Pete Harrison

A Wamboin resident since 1995, Pete moved to Canberra in the early 70s to study science at the ANU. His interests moved from chemistry to IT early on and the most part of his career was spent in the development and delivery of professional services throughout the Asia-Pacific region.

Since retirement, his efforts have been directed towards youth leadership within his local Scout Group, various roles within the Wamboin Community Association and most recently local government, serving on Palerang Council since 2011, as Mayor since 2012, until the amalgamation in 2016. Since then he has served as chair of the new council’s Local Representation Committee and Implementation Advisory Group.

In his time on Council, he worked to represent the interests of the broader community in Council decisions. He helped to improve the way in which Council engages with the community by creating opportunities for greater community participation in Council activities and improving the level of communication through both print and on-line media channels.

As part of his commitment to improving communication with the broader Queanbeyan-Palerang community, Pete maintains a website to help inform the community on Council's activities, and to provide access to more general information relating to his role on Council.
